In the past parents have voted less than any other group in town. But that is in the past, right?

On Tuesday May 15, we need every single parent to get out and vote. Every single one. It’s so easy to do and it really matters. Not sure why? Give us less than 2 minutes to show you:

Key Information

Are you registered to vote?

If not, get your voter registration form here and bring it to the Registrar.

Where do you go to vote?

This website will tell you where to vote. Just put your town, name and birthday in to find your polling location. If you don’t get a result, you may not be registered in Brookfield so contact the Registrar.

Not sure what we’re voting on?

This vote is for the budget. The number you will see on Tuesday May 15th is $56,769,000. That includes both expenses for town operations (about $19M) and school operations (about $36M). The budget process began months ago and the budget has gone through many rounds of reviews with multiple opportunities for public input.

The Education Budget priorities are:

  • Meet class size guidelines, particularly at the elementary level
  • Implement the full-day kindergarten program
  • Provide resources to move toward a 21st century curriculum and state-required Common Core State Standards
  • Continue multi-year phase-in of world language program
  • Meet programatic goals despite reduction in State and Federal funding
  • Adequately staff maintenance position and the state-wide green initiative

The Town Budget priorities are:

  • an additional Police Officer devoted to drug enforcement
  • Increase in technology and automation
  • Additional hours at the library
  • Additional hours at the Senior Center
  • Increased investment in the Town’s Pension fund

If you have any questions about what we’re voting on, how to vote or when, please ask. You can post a comment below or send us an email.

We know you’re busy. You work hard, you run around to get your kids to school, to activities, to sports. You do all of this because you want good things for your children. Voting is no different. We have to make the time (just a little time) to get to the polls and speak for our kids and families.

To almost quote Ferris Beuller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to vote, you could miss it”.

April 24, 2012

We know meetings are hard for parents. And it’s not just about getting dinner on the table and getting out the door either. We go to Board meetings and we can’t hear. When we can hear, we don’t understand the discussion because we can’t see the documents or we don’t know the terms they’re using. [...]
